08:54 pm - AHH! This journal's gettin' dusty! *cough*
So I'm putting up some pictures. YEY! More work scribbles! Starting to think I don't actually do WORK at work, aren't you!? LOL. I tend to use my breaks to sketch, as often whatever music I'm listening to will inspire me. Thus, the scrap paper I have lying around (and I assure you, I've taken out an orchard with all the things I've had to print out...), and the blue pens they gave me are getting put to some use! XD
This first one was done to "The Passing of the Elves"....I mentioned and posted the song in a recent journal entry and said I drew to it. This is what I drew!

And this one is my new equine character! No, none of you have seen him yet...but if Tyr, Jas, and I ever actually get that horse RP started, he's gonna be my charry, yes! His name is Wraith. He's not always this angry, I promise. *laughs* But yes...I was listening to "Dacoit Duel" on the From Heaven and Earth soundtrack, and there was Wraith. :D And yes, his full name will have something to do with storms...thus the background. LIGHTNING YAY!

OK, I'm done. XD Current Music: Evanescence - Imaginary

11:03 am - OCing is FUN! Hokay, so...Tivvy and I did a little OCing last night! Oh it was SO much fun. It's been ages since I've OCed, and it helped me wind down...that and of course Tivvy and I were laughing our heads off half the time at the crazy things we came up with.
But lemme start from the beginning...
First, I was feeling very wereish. That's what happens when I read Kelley Armstrong books. YAY! SO I scribbled a were!

And here's me 'n Tiv, hangin' out...

My fave pic of the night...sometimes I can just scribble and wing it and it'll turn out half decent. I'd love to do a nicer work of this one! Tivvy is FREEEEEE!

And now for the crazier stuff. As for this one...don't ask. *is DYING laughing*

..and then we have the demon Autie and the angel Tiv. The expressions crack me up. And make me wanna draw hellish looking demon wolves, too, for that matter. But this one's more for fun purposes. XD

That's it...YAY OCING!

02:05 pm - ART! This is something you won't see from me often...but...SKETCHDUMP TIME! I went through a bunch of my saved photoshop scribbles and decided to put up a ton of them.
This one's just to get your attention! And it's an Autie eye! It looks more cat-like than wolf-like, but...the colors are spot-on. Why? Because I actually took a picture of my own eye and stole the colors with the eyedropper tool. *snicker* So yay!

The rest of the pix, and I assure you they are better than this one and include a little gift art (but beware this is image intensive as I didn't feel like tossing them up as links!!), are ( under the cut! )

06:07 pm - Spoiled Another off-the-cuff doodle just for fun. XD Steve and I are working on a fursona for him...and we know he's a cat for sure. Still working on colors, but we're thinking chocolate classic tabby with some white...I still hafta pester him about it though. I will convert him to furrydom yet! *giggles*
Anywho, y'know how cats do that little massage thing with their feet? It only works out, considering I'm rather spoiled when it comes to wanting massages. He's too good to me. *laughs* So this little pic came to mind and I just had to sketch it. Yup, definitely a cat...

05:03 pm Am just sitting here waiting for my thesis stuff to upload, and scribbled a little! Another Jesse pic...drawing him becomes addictive, really. I have more sketches of him in my sketchbook, I swear...
Hanyway, just drew him sitting, looking kinda sad and pensive, I guess. This is what my little quick sketches look like...messy as anything! But fun, and gets the idea on paper...and leaves the reference search for later. I may do a final of this one, and actually put the wings in. But I like the lankiness of him here...that's how I see him in my head, but I can NEVER draw it right. :P

03:54 pm - Thesis HOKAY...so...I promised thesis sketches, but uploading them has been WEIRD...and I'll hafta rescan them and put them up sometime later. I do, however, have a little clip here of one of my WIP's for thesis! I'm doing a line of greeting cards, and this one here is my snow leopard (for Christmas!). I still have a LOOOOOONG way to go, and his entire body to fluff up with fur, but I'm learning a heck of a lot about rendering fur and about drawing snow leopards in the process! Here's a snippet of the progress on the head so far...

08:28 pm - Guh... I'm a long-time admirer of Carl Brenders, and I was searching for image of snow leopards when I came across one I haven't seen before. I would've sworn it was a photo...I want to paint like him! And have his art babies.
OMG snow leopard!

11:40 pm - Rantage... Excuse me a moment, for I need to rant.
I've been looking at a lot of people's art on my watch list at DA, right? And I tend to find a common problem in a lot of the artwork dealing with fur. I think some people tend to think that scribbling in some kind of pattern means "This looks like good fur!" I'm sorry, but no. Fur is more complicated than that. To give it life and dynamics, fur is pretty darn complicated. The shame is, is that with a little more work, a lot of the fur renderings out there could be THAT much better. Not that I'm trying to sound like the almighty final dictator on what fur should be...I struggle with it myself, and I am still learning what methods work best and LOOK right for me. This whole past semester I worked on fur and in the end was only partly pleased...but I came out knowing what to do next time to make it better. But I think there are a lot of people who need to learn their fur if they're going to employ it in their work...it's not just a bunch of random shadows in a pattern. :P
My other rantage is about weres. I LOVE weres. But I must admit, I'm getting a bit tired of the monotony in look for them. Mind, I am a fan of Goldenwolf's work, but it seems like SO MANY artists follow her style of weres that it seems it is "the way" to draw them. Not only in body structure, but that hair thing she does where the mane becomes wavy strands of hair at the end. Yes, it looks very nice, and I associate that look with her art, but does that mean everyone must do it? And for goodness sakes with the snaggletooth thing, something that I associate again with Goldie's, and well as Blaqriot's art. And whaddaya know, on most other were characters that have them, they also look just the same as any of Goldie's weres. I admit, there's not a whole plethora of ways to draw a werewolf, but I feel the originality in STYLES, particularly, is very lacking. It's okay to borrow from other artists if you like the style, but at least try making it your own in some way. My weres are nothing special to look at, but at least they don't look like anyone else's in particular (er...I don't think! LOL). I've seen a heck of a lot of werewolf movies, and I can tell ya for sure, in each one the weres look different, so I KNOW it's possible! I have nothing against Goldie or Jaime, both artists are people whose work I look up to...my problem is with all the people who refuse to try out their own styles or ways of going about the were form. Even Goldie and Jaime both differ from each other in the way they approach their art and weres.
...anyway, sorry for the rantage...I'm feeling a bit opinionated at the moment. *laughs*

03:37 pm - Jesse head! Another scribble...did this one today! I was working on other things and listening to music on my computer, and when this song started playing, I got immediately inspired to draw Jesse. It's just so him. XD And this is probably one of my better drawings of him, since getting him down on paper like I see him in my head is not often easy for me. Anyway, here he is, in all his hawt Jesseness. :D

08:24 pm - The coloring begins... There comes a time for all artists where there is discovery, of trying new things, and of finding their way. I think I've hit a point on this piece. Something I've been wanting to do is finally being accomplished. The task of REALISM. And now I'm beginning to understand it, and what work must go into a piece to achieve it. That said, here's my piece of Gwyn again, just the head, as I'm working on the fur. A lot still to go (and then the whole BODY to do! AHHH!) but I like where this is headed! And I'm learning a LOT about wolf fur textures after really examining photos...dang, the things you think you know until you really look closely!
All I gotta say is...OMG THE EYES. XD

12:39 pm - Oh noes! *laughs* It's been a while since I've OCed, but I had the awesomest time last night scribbling with Tivvy. While we did a lot of sketching, this has to be my favorite! Needless to say, Autie made a joke that Tivvy didn't appreciate...this is the result. *just laughs*

02:48 pm - More lupine loveliness... Okay, so I have plenty of sketchbook crap I could scan and put in here, but I've been lazy. ;) I do, however, have something I've been working on today! This character has been in my head for over a year now, and I've been wanting to get her outta there for some time! I'm finally drawing her out, and finally giving her a name. Gwyn Enaid, or White Soul in Welsh. She's become extremely symbolic and special to me. While her fur is going to be completely black, her eyes are pure white, sometimes iridescent and showing the rainbow in them when the sun hits them just right. She's kind of like a parody in that while blackness generally denotes evil, anger, or sadness, it is her eyes (the window to the soul) which really speak of her spirit of purity and innocence. For some reason, I tend to liken and see her with white roses, which is why she's holding one in her mouth in the pic. But yes. This will be a finished piece, eventually!
Didn't finish sketching the lines for her front paws, but that's because there's something wrong with them...something with the perspective or something, that I need to fix. Nonetheless, it's bugging me and I plan on playing around with them a bit to make it look better. :P Anyway, here's the pic...not under a cut because I'm a slacktard. ;)

09:26 pm - Tattoo! My tattoo design as it stand right now...LOTS I wanna fix, but I'm getting very, very close to where I wanna be. Wanna re-ink the entire thing, but first gotta play with the design some, fix the face, decide where marks should be to indicate muscles, etc, and work on my linework most of all. But yeah! I can't WAIT to get this...:D

10:22 pm - Thesis thingie... Well, figured I should at least put something up here, since I have it...I worked on finishing up 2 of my thesis pix today. Can't say I'mtoo happy with either of them...I notice a bagillion problems and I'm just kinda...fed up. Maybe I've just been looking at them too long...but this one is the better of the two, so I'll post it up here. Feel free to give any suggestions to fix it if you like! I already plan to bump up and add more fire highlights, because they just disappear from far away, and I realize they need fixing. I just need more highlights in general. Anywho, click to see larger image, as usual. :P

12:25 pm - No art, just art talk Alright, so I'm not really posting art, but I do wanna do a little bit of art rambling.
More and more I've been discovering that I am lighting obsessed. I've looked at a ton of photos, and a ton of art, and I am still trying to grasp how light effects what is in a scene, or how a character looks. Also working on atmosphere, and how color effects a character in a certain setting. Yes, I amnuts about this stuff, and I still have a lot of learning to do, but I'm getting there.
In my thesis, which I'll be diligently working on today and tomorrow, I've been researching a lot on light and color. I tend to lean toward things with vivid color...I just love it. It's probably why my Fox piece is the one I've been liking most...the dark blue atmosphere and the bright orange firelight are such a joy! It's the Fauvist side of me screaming to be released. If you don't know what Fauvism is, you must look up some artists of that particular movement. They had a huge interest in bright, saturated color and light, and some of the work really takes your breath away. :)
I'm already planning what I'd like to do for thesis next semester, too, and I'm VERRAH excited about it! I want to do something like a furry/were/mythical creatures calendar...having one piece for each of the seasons. Anthro Nightwolf is gonna be one piece, and I think I'd like to do pegasi for another, rats for another, and probably some kind of big cat. I'm trying to choose animals different from the ones I'm using for my current thesis projects, so as to have a wide range to show off at the Senior show. I hope I can pull it off in time...I have a million and one projects to work on right now. :P
Anyway, just getting some art thoughts and stuff out. Need to go buy some art books, too. I saw one the other day with work by various wildlife artists...mmn, I want me some Carl Brenders artsies.

09:00 pm - Bats and wolves... A couple of things for this journal. One is a little Skade drawing. Made that into an icon for da Liz, but have so far shown it to no one but her. SO...figured I'd toss it here.
Also did something I'm rather proud of...despite it's simplicity. Did this little piece for school, since we had to make a mock postcard thingy. Every year at the Senior show, the illustrators put postcards with their display, so people can take them if they like the work they see. It usually has a picture of our work, and our name and e-mail and website on it and whatever. I haven't put on the type yet, but this would be the back of my card. Drawing this was therapeutic...I haven't really done a finished work of Autie since AnthroCon. But even more importantly, this completely captures Autie for who she is...finding happiness in the simplest of things. :)

10:34 pm - Thesis! Oooo, 2 updates in a day! I'm on a roll...;) Actually, I wanted to post this and get your opinions on it...it's part of my thesis for this semester, an illlustration for the story of Rainbow Crow. I'm still really having trouble with the legs...something just isn't right about them...I can't get the balance down. Do they seem off to you? Any tips or good references or red-lining would be AWESOME....

08:42 pm - Sketches, hooray!!! Hey everyone! Welcome to my brand-spanking-new sketch journal. If you haven't read the bio, this is my new place for WIP's and other random sketches that I do. Typically, sketches like these never get to see the internet...simply because I hate them or I never plan on making finished pieces out of them. LOL. But I decided they needed a place and some of you have hassled me for such things, so voila! I plan on keeping my paintchat scribblings and stuff here too. ALSO...for anything that is a work in progress, you ALL are allowed to crit them...especially sketches. I'll probably ask for crits anyway, but I want you all to be aware of this. The beginning stages of any work in progress are the best times to fix anything that needs fixing, and often times the eyes of others pick up things I tend to miss.
Anyway, decided to get this thing rolling right away with a scribble I did today...
( Warning, mild artistic nudity )
